Sizing Guide

Earring Size & Fit Guide

Earrings don't follow one universal size — a stud is measured by stone diameter, a hoop by its circle, a drop by its length. Here's how to choose the right one for you, style by style.

There's no single "earring size" the way there's a ring size — what matters is diameter, length, and how a piece feels against your ear over a full day. A few minutes thinking through style and scale now means jewelry you'll actually reach for.

Choosing the Right Size for Each Style

Studs, hoops, and drops are each sized differently — here's what to consider for each.

Stud Earrings

Studs are sized by the diameter of the stone, in millimeters, and usually described by carat weight.

  1. Think about how often you'll wear them — everyday pieces are often smaller and lighter.
  2. Hold a small coin beside your ear in a mirror to get a sense of scale.
  3. Match your preferred look to the carat-to-mm chart below.

0.25–0.50 ct per ear reads as delicate and everyday; 1 ct+ makes a statement.

Hoop Earrings

Hoops are sized by diameter — the distance across the circle, measured in millimeters.

  1. Decide how close to the earlobe you'd like the hoop to sit.
  2. Consider your hair length — shorter hair shows off larger hoops more.
  3. Match your preferred diameter to the guide below.

Huggies (10–15mm) are the most comfortable for all-day wear.

Drop & Dangle Earrings

Drops are sized by total length — from the top of the post to the lowest point, in millimeters.

  1. Note your face shape and hair length — longer drops elongate the face nicely.
  2. Consider how much movement and sparkle you want.
  3. Match your preferred length to the guide below.

Medium-length drops (25–50mm) are the most versatile, day-to-night.

A Few Things That Affect Fit & Comfort

  • Heavier stones or larger hoops can pull on the earlobe over a full day — for extended wear, lighter styles are more comfortable.
  • Our posts are designed for a standard ear piercing (20 gauge) — if yours is stretched or non-standard, our team can help you find a fit.
  • Hinged or lever backs are easier for everyday wear than friction backs, especially on hoops.
  • If you have sensitive skin, look for hypoallergenic posts like 14k gold or 18k gold.
  • Don't have pierced ears? Select styles are available with clip-on or screw-back fittings — ask our styling team.

Between two categories? For your first pair of a new style, sizing down is usually the safer choice — a smaller hoop or shorter drop is easier to wear all day, and you can always go bolder next time.

Earring Sizing Questions

What's the standard post gauge for your earrings?

Our earring posts are designed for a standard ear piercing (20 gauge), the most common size. If you have a stretched or non-standard piercing, reach out and we'll help you find a fit.

How do I know what carat stud will look proportionate on me?

It comes down to personal preference more than face shape. As a general guide, 0.25–0.50 ct per ear reads as delicate and everyday, while 1 ct or more makes a statement. Try the reference chart above, or hold a small coin beside your ear in a mirror to visualize scale.

Are your hoops and huggies adjustable?

Most of our hoops have a fixed diameter for a consistent, secure fit — check the individual product page for the exact measurement.

Do you offer clip-on or non-pierced options?

Select styles are available with clip-on or screw-back fittings for non-pierced ears — reach out to our styling team and we'll help you find the right option.

Can drop earrings be made shorter or longer?

Most of our dangle styles are a fixed length, designed to hang at a specific proportion. If you're looking for a custom length, contact our team and we're happy to see what's possible.
